Protect baby from cold
When winter comes, the parents worry about their little ones catching cold. To keep your baby warm during the cold season, DPAM provides practical advice on how to combat the chilly weather!
Clothes to keep your baby warm in winter
Before the age of two months, babies cannot regulate their body temperature alone and are not able to tell you whether they are feeling hot or cold! Therefore, it is important, to dress them warmly to protect them from the cold, at all times, both at home and outdoors.
Keep little ones warm indoors
Air provides the best thermal insulation, so it’s better to wear several thin layers rather than one thick item of clothing. You can remove unneeded layers according to changes as you go about your day, adapting what baby is wearing to different temperatures. In a well-heated room at home, baby’s clothes should combine comfort and simplicity. Opt for a DPAM comfortable bodysuit; add a pair of velour pyjamas or sleepsuit and a pair of thick socks. No need for a hat indoors unless the room is draughty.
A cosy cocoon for baby at nighttime
In summer or winter, the ideal temperature in your baby’s bedroom is 19°C. For safe and comfortable nights, choose the mixed baby sleepsuit for winter, made in thick, soft and warm fabric. You can simply slip it on over baby’s pyjamas or bodysuit.
The ideal equipment for going out with baby
When temperatures are low, the risk of catching cold is higher outdoors so it’s best to dress your baby warmly when going out.
A warmly-dressed baby outdoors
The same principle applies for dressing baby when getting ready to go out – opt for several layers of thin clothing. As with adults, it’s through the extremities that babies lose body heat! For the best protection, DPAM offers sets that are both warm and chic! For example:
- Soft tights and high knee socks;
- Irresistible fleece-lined shoes;
- Warm and comfortable hat;
- Mittens attached by cord to be passed through overcoat sleeves;
- and a beautiful matching scarf to complete the winter look!
Feeling warm against daddy or mummy
Baby carriers and carrier wraps have their strong and weak points when temperatures drop. The advantages of baby carriers are that they allow you to share your body heat with your baby. If you choose a classical baby carrier, remember to cover baby with your overcoat or a shawl: the baby’s legs are exposed and need to be protected against the cold. The down side of using baby carriers is that the baby’s arms and legs are compressed, and they are also sensitive to cold. So, baby carriers and wraps are ideal for short walks but not for longer winter outings.
Keeping warm in the pram or pushchair
If you are planning to spend time with baby outdoors, a pram or pushchair is ideal during winter. In the pram, remember to raise the weather shield and protect baby with a soft and warm stroller blanket. DPAM also offers a whole collection of snowsuits ideal for chilly weather! In the pushchair, add a rain cover which will also serve as a windbreaker, then slip your baby into a warm DPAM coat or jacket. If your pushchair comes with a “winter” fleece lining option, remember to turn the lining over to winter mode or add a blanket which will transform the pushchair into a cosy cocoon for baby who’ll be able to go with you anywhere!
